Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy describes how custodynote.com ("the Site") uses cookies and similar technologies such as local storage. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy. The Custody Note desktop application does not use web cookies; this policy covers the website only.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. "Similar technologies" include local storage and pixels. They can help a site function, remember preferences, keep you secure, or (where used) support analytics. Cookies may be first-party (set by this Site) or third-party (set by another domain), and session (deleted when you close the browser) or persistent (kept for a set period).
2. Our approach
We keep cookies minimal by design. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, or advertising profiles on custodynote.com.
3. Categories we may use
- Strictly necessary — required for security, load-balancing, or session operation (for example where our host or CDN sets essential cookies). These do not require consent.
- Analytics (privacy-focused) — when the Site is hosted on Vercel, we may use Vercel Web Analytics, a first-party, privacy-focused measurement of page views and Web Vitals that does not build advertising profiles. See Vercel's analytics privacy policy.
- Preference — only if we add features that remember your choices (for example a cookie-banner consent flag). We will describe them here if introduced.
4. Consent
Strictly necessary cookies operate without consent because they are required for the Site to function. If we introduce additional non-essential cookies or tracking that requires consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR, we will request consent before those cookies are set and update this policy accordingly.
5. Third-party services
The Software installer may be delivered via third-party infrastructure (for example GitHub Releases). Their privacy and cookie practices apply when you visit those domains; this policy covers custodynote.com only. Links to our sister sites and external resources are governed by those sites' own policies.
6. Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and most browsers let you refuse or be alerted to new cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may affect Site functionality. Guidance for common browsers is available from their respective help pages, and general information about cookies is available at the ICO's cookies guidance.
7. Changes
We will update this page when our use of cookies changes. Check the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
